I'm planning for another year of a curriculum junkie's dream - homeschool product reviews with the Homeschool Review Crew! This week all the new Crew members (and a number of returning members) are sharing reviews of SchoolhouseTeachers.com. And even though I'm not writing an official review, I want to highlight their reviews and the Yearly Membership at SchoolhouseTeachers.com because it's an amazing resource that homeschoolers need to know about.

High-quality, Self-paced, Online Homeschool Resources {SchoolhouseTeachers.com}

If you're not familiar with SchoolhouseTeachers.com, I'd describe it as a one-stop hub for homeschool curriculum, resources, record-keeping, and all kinds of other homeschool-related tools. At the time of writing, SchoolhouseTeachers.com offers more than 360 courses for homeschoolers from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. You also have access to things like the Record-keeping resources and a Just For Parents sectionFocused Learning Centers, High School Help, and Help with Special NeedsTwo newer offerings on the website are the Video Library and the World Book Resource Library.  Much of the media available in the Video Library is included in the courses offered on the website, but since it's included in both places, it makes those videos available a la carte as well. You'll find videos of varying lengths and suitable for many age groups on art, geography, apologetics, foreign languages, marriage-building, science, and so much more.  The World Book Resource Library is the encyclopedia and collection of eBooks, all sorted by grades and subjects so you can find the games, learning activities, books, and research resources you need.

With so many subjects and grade levels and types of courses available, the site can be overwhelming at first! Take heart - there are a few different ways to browse what's available and find what you need. You can search by Subject or by Grade Level. Many of the courses are suitable for a fairly broad range of grades, so you can easily adjust for what you need. I also like the Quick Links page, where you'll find all the courses listed by subject.

Here's a small sampling of some of the courses that we use or plan to use in some way:

There are lots of art studies for all ages and abilities on the SchoolhouseTeachers.com Art page. We've often used lessons from Everyday Easels (art based mini-units for all ages), and I like hunting up information in  the Art History course.  There are several tutorial style courses for high school age, and there's quite a bit of flexibility in how they can be used. My daughter doesn't have the time for a full credit art course this year, but she likes trying her hand at new artistic endeavors occasionally. She can work on projects or get ideas from the thematic lessons in Drawing With Realism or Studio Art for Teens. And there is a brand new course that I think will appeal to her - Exploring the World of Art. This course explores several different media such as oil pastels, watercolors, pointillism with acrylics, mosaics with paper, and 3D art.

An Elective we're considering is the high school level course, Introduction to Architecture. I've already used material from this course as it relates to art!

If we do the Architecture course, that might fulfill the Tech credit requirement, but if we don't do that, Kennady could also choose to do some Graphic Design or Image Editing as Tech electives, and they'd also appeal to her interest in art!

Music is her favorite subject, but we could use some more structured coursework for Music Theory. SchoolhouseTeachers has it. Another tempting possibility is History of Western Music.

We're at the point where the College Choice Guidance course and SAT-ACT Math Prep class might be extremely useful!

And finally, since I require my kids to take a Consumer Math course before graduating, I'm looking at Money 101 for her senior year.
